Kia Ora Team Koru Whānau,
It is now Week 7!
Wow the time has flown by and we have had some changes going on in our space.
We welcome Vanessa Walker as a new teacher in Team Koru, she is the new teacher in Koru 4. We have also had to farewell our Year 3 students who have transitioned into Team Harakeke this week. We wish them well and look forward to hearing their stories of Team Harakeke at break times.
Our Team inquiry has been developing, learning more about our Hauora (Wellbeing). This week we have been discussing Mental and Emotional wellbeing and how we can look after this part of ourselves.

Welcome to Term 2! Learning is in full flow and immediately the students in Team Koru are actively engaged in our inquiry for the term. Our focus is: Hauora (Wellbeing). We will be spending the next 9 weeks exploring different aspects of our overall wellbeing using the concept of Te Whare tapa wha as our guide. The Māori concepts of taha wairua (spiritual), taha hinengaro (mental and emotional), taha tinana (physical) , and taha whānau (social and family) are what help us to maintain wellbeing in our lives and having balance across these domains.
Taha tinana is explored through physical activity and we are currently developing this during our cross country training every morning. Taha whānau is currently being explored through Keeping Ourselves Safe which is being supported by our local police education constable Meg Moynihan.
All the staff in Team Koru are really excited about the coming term. Please do come in and explore our space if you get the chance and if you would like to support us through parent help come and put your name on the whiteboard in the entrance to Team Koru. :)

Term 1 has flown by and we are getting ready to share our learning with the community on Thursday 6th April. Keep an eye out for our community invitation on Hero. Our visit to the Botanic gardens has inspired the students in Team Koru to become Kaitiaki of our learning spaces and local environment. In Week 8 our Year 3 students set about cleaning up our school environment.
Students in Koru have been learning about our native flora and fauna and exploring these topics across the curriculum. The Team Koru hub has been humming along nicely, because of the amazing effort from our teaching staff, learning assistants and volunteer parent helpers. If you wish to support our learning during the week please write your name on our Team Koru whiteboard which is by the entrance to our Hub.

We are already half way through Term 1! Wow it has flown by. Thank you to all the parents who were able to make it to the information evening in Week 4. There was a good attendance from our community and the Team Koru teachers felt it was a successful evening.
Swimming in Week 2 and 3 was awesome! The students have learnt some water safety skills and had targeted lessons by the instructors at Linwood Pool - Te Pou toetoe. The students in Team Koru have been learning more about Kaitiakitanga in their home room inquiry groups and will continue over the next few weeks explore this concept further. On Tuesday this week we took a bus to the Botanic gardens and met with educators from the Christchurch City Council. We learnt about biodiversity and the names and types of animals and plants that live in the botanic gardens. The Teachers from Team Koru are all excited to use what we have learned at the Botanic gardens to explore our own environment at school and how we can become Kaitiaki of our indoor and outdoor learning spaces.

Kia Ora Koutou,
Nau mai Haere Mai, Welcome back to Christchurch East for 2023!
It was awesome to meet so many parents and students for our Personal Learning Plan meetings. These conferences are so valuable in setting up our students for success. The first couple of days of learning have been all about developing relationships with our tamariki and setting up routines and expectations for the year ahead.
We are all excited about our inquiry for the Term which is based on the concept of Kaitiakitanga or Guardianship of our environment. We start this term with swimming for the next two weeks and look forward to a new experience going to Linwood community pool.

What a year it has been! Team Koru have been learning so much! Whether it has been in Reading, Writing, Maths, Inquiry, Pataitai, Physical Education or the Arts the students of Team Koru have showed determination, commitment to their learning and our Learner Qualities and Values.
Students in Te Piko have been hard at work preparing gifts for staff to show their appreciation of all the hard work they have done throughout the year.
Koru 1, 2, and 3 meanwhile have been preparing to give back to people in aged care homes in our local area. Students have been nuturing plants and decorating pots to give to these facilities and they have been practising some songs to perform in a video to share before the end of the year.
Farewell to all of those students who are moving through to Harakeke the staff in Team Koru will miss teaching you!!! Have a safe and happy summer break. Let's hope for plenty of sunshine! :)

End - Term 3 Update
Team Koru has had an action packed term with lots of new experiences to interest learners. We were please to see the relaxing of mask wearing which allows our staff and students in Year 4-8 to show their faces once more. Students have been learning about time, money, technology and businesses and how to produce a product for sale on a small scale. Pataitai has had a business flavour this term with our role play room transformed into a shop and a cafe. Our nursery corner has followed the tales of Cinderella and the Three Little Pigs and our students have explored basic robotics and coding concepts with our BeeBots.
Market Day
Market Day was a huge success! All classes in Team Koru prepared and sold their products as part of our inquiry for the term. Students loved sampling the wares on display and used all of Christchurch East dollars to buy products and services. Please take a moment to watch our Team Koru video on the school facebook page or watch via Hero.
Welcome & Farewell
A big welcome to Jess! Who is working in Team Koru as our new Learning Assistant. Jess has slotted into the team seamlessly and is offering some amazing support to the learners in our team. Team Koru is saying farewell to Miss Cade who has been in Koru 1 for the last six weeks. The students have enjoyed having her in the space.

It's great to be back for Term 3! Our programme is in full swing and we are exploring ideas around: 'what is a business?', money and time, and shopping. Don't forget to ask your child about their Pataitai experiences so they can practice sharing and explaining themselves.
On Friday's we are happy to continue to have Team Kauri students for our Tuakana-teina time as this was a great success during term 2. Have a look at some photos we captured of this time in Week 1 of this term.

What an excellent Term 2! A great way to end the term by finishing our movies which we will be sharing at the beginning of Term 3. It was awesome to see so many parents attending the 3 Way Learner conferences to share all the successes our tamariki have had this year in Team Koru. Thank you for your continued support.
Making movies in each class was a really fun experience and we cannot wait to show everyone the amazing movies we were able to create. It was great to see students reflecting upon what a movie was at the end of the term. You could really see a firmer understanding of the concepts of what you need to make a movie. A big one being you do not have to film all of it in one go.
We gave the students a sneak peek of the movies through the trailer for our school movie and the kids were really excited!
Have a look at some of the awesome learning captured by teachers and learning assistants in Team Koru.
Finally, all the staff and students in Team Koru were saddened to hear that Mere, one of our Learning assistants in Team Koru, is moving on at the end of the Term. We wish her well and all the best in her new adventure.
