Thursday 1st December

What a year it has been! Team Koru have been learning so much! Whether it has been in Reading, Writing, Maths, Inquiry, Pataitai, Physical Education or the Arts the students of Team Koru have showed determination, commitment to their learning and our Learner Qualities and Values.

Students in Te Piko have been hard at work preparing gifts for staff to show their appreciation of all the hard work they have done throughout the year.

Koru 1, 2, and 3 meanwhile have been preparing to give back to people in aged care homes in our local area. Students have been nuturing plants and decorating pots to give to these facilities and they have been practising some songs to perform in a video to share before the end of the year.

Farewell to all of those students who are moving through to Harakeke the staff in Team Koru will miss teaching you!!! Have a safe and happy summer break. Let's hope for plenty of sunshine! :)

Monday 31st October

Hello Team Koru Whānau!
Team Koru and Te Piko have been learning about Wellbeing so far this term. Physical wellbeing through run, jump, throw Athletics practice. Mindfulness and personal well-being in the classroom with their teachers.

Wednesday 28th September

End - Term 3 Update
Team Koru has had an action packed term with lots of new experiences to interest learners. We were please to see the relaxing of mask wearing which allows our staff and students in Year 4-8 to show their faces once more. Students have been learning about time, money, technology and businesses and how to produce a product for sale on a small scale. Pataitai has had a business flavour this term with our role play room transformed into a shop and a cafe. Our nursery corner has followed the tales of Cinderella and the Three Little Pigs and our students have explored basic robotics and coding concepts with our BeeBots.

Market Day
Market Day was a huge success! All classes in Team Koru prepared and sold their products as part of our inquiry for the term. Students loved sampling the wares on display and used all of Christchurch East dollars to buy products and services. Please take a moment to watch our Team Koru video on the school facebook page or watch via Hero.

A big welcome to Jess! Who is working in Team Koru as our new Learning Assistant. Jess has slotted into the team seamlessly and is offering some amazing support to the learners in our team. Team Koru is saying farewell to Miss Cade who has been in Koru 1 for the last six weeks. The students have enjoyed having her in the space.

Tuesday 30th August

Team Koru is also pleased to have Miss Cade, a student teacher from the University of Canterbury, in Koru 1 until the end of the term.

Thursday 4th August 2022

It's great to be back for Term 3! Our programme is in full swing and we are exploring ideas around: 'what is a business?', money and time, and shopping. Don't forget to ask your child about their Pataitai experiences so they can practice sharing and explaining themselves.
On Friday's we are happy to continue to have Team Kauri students for our Tuakana-teina time as this was a great success during term 2. Have a look at some photos we captured of this time in Week 1 of this term.

Wednesday 6th July 2022

What an excellent Term 2! A great way to end the term by finishing our movies which we will be sharing at the beginning of Term 3. It was awesome to see so many parents attending the 3 Way Learner conferences to share all the successes our tamariki have had this year in Team Koru. Thank you for your continued support.

Making movies in each class was a really fun experience and we cannot wait to show everyone the amazing movies we were able to create. It was great to see students reflecting upon what a movie was at the end of the term. You could really see a firmer understanding of the concepts of what you need to make a movie. A big one being you do not have to film all of it in one go.

We gave the students a sneak peek of the movies through the trailer for our school movie and the kids were really excited!

Have a look at some of the awesome learning captured by teachers and learning assistants in Team Koru.

Finally, all the staff and students in Team Koru were saddened to hear that Mere, one of our Learning assistants in Team Koru, is moving on at the end of the Term. We wish her well and all the best in her new adventure.

Wednesday 4th May 2022

Whew!! What a term!

Monday 6th July, 2020

School holidays have started after a challenging term 2. One thing which all the staff in Team Koru agree on is how resilient the children are under unusual circumstances. We are all very proud of how they have managed to adjust to the changes we put in place and which continue across the school. We are all looking forward to an exciting term 3 and some warmer weather!

The school is holding 3WLC (Three Way Learner Conferences) in week 2 of term 3. Information has been sent out via the Skool Loop app and below is some information incase you missed it:

Welcome back to Term 1, 2020!

Sunday 2nd February 2020

Welcome back to Term 1. It was great to meet so many of our families at the Personal Learning Plan (PLP) meetings
on Monday and Tuesday. So many of the children were excited to return to school after such a long summer break.
We have enjoyed observing them re-connect with friends and make new friends as they explore their classroom spaces. This has been particularly obvious during Pataitai where through play the children have explored, shared, used their imaginations and shown a wonderful Sense of Community towards one another.

Our school wide Inquiry this term is Relationships and Team Koru will be focusing on friendships. This is a great topic to start the year off as we all get to know each other.

Later in the term we have swimming (weeks 7 & 8) and cross country will be after that.  More information will come out closer to the time.

Please put the Skool Loop app on your phones as this is a quick way to communicate information and also to update the school for absent children.

We all look forward to an exciting term 1!

 Term 4 Events

Sunday 1st December 2019
Even though the year is coming to an end, we haven't slowed down at all in Team Koru. So far this term we have visited Turanga library, participated in Athletics and the Christchurch East Outdoor Ed Day, enjoyed a visit from the Circus and a NZ Author, had some fun with Dirt Car's...not to mention all the learning we have had in class!

One of the highlights was our trip to Turanga Library. The students were treated to a song and some story-telling by the lovely librarians, we had a tour of some areas of the library and got to do some dancing and exercises with a robot! The students also got to explore the children's area. Many students hadn't been to the new library yet and they absolutely loved our short visit. It's such a great facility, free of charge, and all the students said they would love to keep coming back in their summer holidays!

Team Koru Athletics!!!

Friday 1st November 2019

This week, Team Koru participated in an Athletics Day, with activities specifically designed to suit their age and abilities. The students spent the first couple of weeks of the term having afternoon practice runs and we discussed key areas such as:

- the importance of giving things a go and trying your hardest, even if you're nervous.
- encouraging and supporting others.
- showing resilience and strength, even if you don't come first.

Thank you so much to all the parents who came to support their children, to our amazing Senior students who ran all the activities and to Ms Hansen and Mr Young who organised the whole day!
We had a great morning out in the sun!

Cultural Week Celebrations

Tuesday 1st October 2019

At the end of Term 3, Christchurch East celebrated the many cultures in our school with a parade, concert and shared lunch. Team Koru celebrated alongside the rest of the school, dressing up in our cultural dress for the parade and taking a lot of pride in our countries as we marched through the city. The students also bought along food from their culture and family to share with the rest of Team Koru and we had a great feast together, celebrating our diverse community!
Throughout the term, Team Koru students continued to learn about their identities and had different ways of sharing and displaying what they had learnt about themselves. After a long term of gathering information, Hub 2 completed their "Identity Boxes" in time to share for their community walk-around. They were so proud of what they had created and loved sharing their work with each other and their families.

Term 3 Inquiry

Monday 2nd September 2019

For Inquiry this term, Team Koru have been focusing on "Our Identity" and "Who Am I?" Identity was a hard concept for the children to grasp but they have started to really engage with it as we have explored family, languages, where we are from, favourite food, sport, place and aspects of culture such as food, dress and traditions and customs. Students have been bringing in things from home to share with the class, so others can share in their culture and identity.
In Hub 2 we have been working hard on our "Identity" boxes (out of shoe boxes) for the children to share at the end of the term. It has been great to engage with parents and families about their culture and learn more about the diverse community we live in!
Below are some photos of things the children have bought in to share.
